Optigrow® seeds are the result of a unique joint effort involving a number of organisations supporting the development of innovative technology. The technological research was conducted by Nelson Seed Development in close cooperation with Seed Processing Holland – a global leader within seed processing technology.
The project was supported financially by Horizon 2020 – the framework programme for research and innovation within the European Union – and by the Kamprad Family Foundation (Mr Kamprad was the founder of the global furniture giant IKEA). Further support was given by VINNOVA (the Swedish authority for innovation and research).
The former research director at Nelson Seed Development – Dr Tongyun Shen – was granted The Swedish Award for Innovation in Memory of Alfred Nobel in 2016 for the development of Seed Vitalization, the method behind the Optigrow® seeds.
